Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board (JUPEB)
The Federal Government of Nigeria approved the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) as a nationwide examination body in December 2013. A group of ten (10) participating universities, led by the University of Lagos, formally founded it in April 2014.
For candidates seeking Direct Entry admissions into University courses at the 200 Level in Nigerian and partner foreign universities, and who have completed at least one year of approved foundation and/or diploma programme coursework, the board is responsible for conducting common and standard examinations.
The JUPEB program's objective is to allow Direct Entry admissions into a range of university programmes around the world by holding reliable exams for applicants who have received a high-quality, well-rounded education.
JUPEB offers an additional platform for facilitating access to university education. Every year, thousands of students register for and take the UTME, but only a select few get admitted to Nigerian universities. The majority of these applicants who are denied admission reapply in succeeding years, making it harder for students to get into Nigerian universities. The worst problem is that UTME results only remain valid for one (1) year, while JUPEB results never expire.
This is specifically the reason the JUPEB Advanced Level programme is strongly advised. In addition to JUPEB, other advanced level programmes include NAGCE, IJMB, and Cambridge.
After completing the JUPEB Advanced Level programme, which lasts for two semesters, a successful JUPEB student graduates into the University's 200 level by direct entry. The JUPEB programme offers all subjects.
A minimum of 5 Credits in relevant o'level topics from WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB in no more than two sittings are required of applicants for admission to the JUPEB programme. You can apply to the JUPEB programme while awaiting results.
The approved JUPEB curriculum, whose contents encompass University 100 level and beyond and which must be taught over the course of two semesters, provides the framework for lectures in the JUPEB programme.
The University of Lagos, the JUPEB headquarters, and moderators at authorised JUPEB associated institutions who have received approval from JAMB jointly monitor the entire JUPEB examination procedure.
